As many as 100 Chinese travel agents to be invited to visit Sri Lanka

And this is largely due to the rapid growth of Chinese' outbound tourism market. A recent research report released by a Colombo based equity firm said, the 70 million plus Chinese outbound tourist market is an under-tapped opportunity for Sri Lanka. The report also mentioned that the tour packages offered by Sri Lankan tour operators are not as appealing for Chinese tourists as they are looking more into gambling and shopping opportunities.

However, in 2012, the Island received an astonishing 1 million tourists, the highest ever in its history.
