(prHWY.com) March 18, 2013 - Seattle, WA -- Guests at the newly built Pillow Planes Hotel and Suites will get a chance to experience jets and other airplanes like never before. The newly built Vancouver hotel has a unique design that allows guests to get as close to airplanes as possible, without having to actually board the aircraft or get on the tarmac.
"What we did was we took the old school drive-in design and made it into a hotel", said Travis Young, the architect behind Pillow Planes Hotel and Suites. "I was approached by the owner to create a unique hotel and that is what I did."
Pillow Planes Hotel and Suites features a unique two tower design. Guestrooms and suites are located in both towers. Each of the towers is connected via a glass walkway.
"It is that glass walkway that makes these hotels unique", said Young. "There is just enough room between the buildings so that airplanes and jets can drive right through. The guests at the hotel can sit or walk through the glass walkway and really experience the airplanes like never before."
This
hotel Vancouver airport location is the first of its kind. Most hotels in the area try to avoid being so close to airplanes and jets, as these vehicles tend to cause a lot of noise. The Pillow Planes Hotel and Suites did just the opposite and tried to get as close as possible.
"One of the biggest challenges that we faces was creating the guestrooms and suites to be soundproof", said Young. "The airplanes and jets create a lot of noise and we couldn't have our guests bothered by the noise."
The hotel came up with some triple reinforced materials and glass that blocks all sound out from the building and guestrooms. This allows guests to get the up close and personal look at the airplanes and jets they want without having to sacrifice sleep or become bothered by the noise. The glass walkway is made out of similar material, too.
"Ever since I was a child I was fascinated by planes", said the owner of the hotel. "I wanted to create an experience that allowed people of all ages to see these wonderful things up close and personal. We have young children coming just to see the planes, and adults wanting to stay at this hotel for its unique quality. Truly it is the best of both worlds if you ask me."
