First Iban dictionary ready to be published in July
To be published by The Tun Jugah Foundation, the Bup Sereba Reti Jaku Iban dictionary, complete with definitions and examples of sentences, was in the final editing stage, said the foundation's research director Dr Robert Menua Saleh.
(prHWY.com) May 14, 2011 - Reigate, United Kingdom -- "There are English-Iban, Iban-Bahasa Malaysia and Iban-English dictionaries, but as far as we know, it is the first of its kind. It is possibly the first in the country, if not the world.


"We expect to start printing it next month. For a start, we may print 500 copies," he told The Star here yesterday.


Menua said a group of researchers from The Tun Jugah Foundation, including its chairman Datuk Amar Leonard Linggi Jugah, mooted the idea of producing the dictionary in 2003.

Since then, they had worked closely with more than 30 contributors comprising senior government officers, Iban elders, teachers and academicsto complete the project, he added.


"The dictionary also presents root words and derivatives from the Saratok, Lubok Antu, Sri Aman and Batang Rajang regions, where some words are spoken differently.


"The dictionary emphasis on all the Iban basic words used in the different regions," he said.
