A translator was mistreated
Funda Uncu was detained by police for six hours in the southwestern district of Bodrum. She is a Turkish translator and translated the book "Snuff" into Turkish
(prHWY.com) June 21, 2011 - Reigate, United Kingdom -- The book was originally written by Chuck Palahniuk and now for the book an investigation had already been opened on the grounds that it did not comply with moral norms and abused sexual instincts.
Uncu said she was mistreated and kept at a police station for six hours.
"I am the translator, not the author," said Uncu, adding that she faced questions like "Are you a model?" and "Have you fallen so low?" just because of the book's title, which translates into Turkish as "Death Porn."
Uncu said the police asked her how she dared write such a book; the translator replied that she was not the person to answer that question as she hasn't written the book, she only translated it.
"I wanted to testify to the prosecutor but they would not accept it," Uncu said. "I am sad I was detained and treated like a criminal."
Language translation is an art that comes from years of experience. Translation service is the need of the hour as many organizations and industries need it on daily basis.
