Chevrolet has announced that the brand will build and produce the 2012 Chevrolet Sonic model at the Detroit, Michigan plant. The 2012 Chevy Sonic will be the only small American car being built at the Detroit plant. General Motors-owned Chevrolet operates a production facility that is part of the larger GM operation in Detroit, Michigan, called the General Motors Orion Assembly Center in Michigan. Earlier this year, the GM Orion Assembly Center received a $545 investment in remodeling and retooling the plant, receiving upgrades that will improve operations. These upgrades from the investment helped to restore approximately 1,000 jobs in the Detroit metropolitan area. The 2012 Chevy Sonic helped in this effort, and production for the 2012 Chevy Sonic is scheduled to begin later this year.
