(prHWY.com) July 19, 2011 - CHICAGO, IL -- It is fitting that around the 4th of July, Cars.com has released its list of Most American cars. Topping the list at number one is the reigning champion, the Toyota Camry. For the past three years, the Camry has come in first for this honor.
The ranking system, making the 2011 Toyota Camry, calculates the percentage of each vehicle that is manufactured in the States. Other factors include where the vehicle is assembled and how many buyers are from the United States. While Toyota is a Japanese company, it has manufacturing plants in America, namely Kentucky and Indiana. The Camry wasn't the only Toyota to make the list. The Sienna, assembled in Indiana, and the Tundra, assembled in Texas, came in 6th ad 9th, respectively.
Editor in chief at Cars.com, Patrick Olsen, says that, "in today's global economy, there's not an easy way to determine just how American a car is. Most cars built in the U.S., for example, are assembled using at least some parts that come from somewhere else." Olsen also informed Chicago used Camry owners that, "many U.S. automakers assemble vehicles in Canada and Mexico, while foreign automakers have opened plants on U.S. soil." Fortunately, Cars.com is just another source of useful information for consumers to make good car-buying decisions.
The recent earthquakes in Japan worried 2011 Toyota Chicago car-drivers about Toyota's future, but they may certainly rest easy. Olsen chimes in again saying that, "the Camry remains an incredibly popular vehicle." It makes sense then, that Chicago used Camry drivers are still coming back for more.
