The Colored Rocks Foundation is still looking for a few good men to award $5,000 in prize money to for its first annual 'Colored Rocks' Prize competition.

ATLANTA, Georgia - Aug 29, 2011 - The Colored Rocks Foundation is still looking for a few good men to award $5,000 in prize money to for its first annual 'Colored Rocks' Prize competition. Initial prizes awarded by the foundation will be made in January 2012 and are limited to young men of color who are attending high school in Georgia, and who are seniors expecting to graduate in 2012. Fifteen prizes will be awarded ranging from $3500 (First Place) to $50 (Honorable Mention). Deadline for entering the competition has been extended to October 22, 2011.
Contestants will be judged on their written composition answering the following 2-part question:
1.a. What specifically is it about you that makes you a 'Colored Rock' and how do you see yourself as a positive influence to other young men of color who need support, guidance and intervention as they face personal, academic or social challenges?
1.b. By lending a helping hand to another young man of color who may be struggling, what can you do to help him move closer to his potential to be a 'Colored Rock'?
Both questions must be answered in 1,000 words or less. Winners must implement and complete the project described in their answer, so all applicants are encouraged to think carefully about their specific plan prior to answering. All announced winners must also graduate from high school before receiving their award. Winners do not have to use their prize money for college. They may use it for whatever purpose they desire. About the Colored Rocks Prize
The Colored Rocks Foundation established the Colored Rocks Prize in 2011 after learning that almost one out of three young men of color do not graduate from Georgia high schools. In fact, Georgia suffers as one of 5 states with the worst high school graduation rates in the country.
The Prize competition was designed to encourage and celebrate distinguished young men of color who graduate from high school and use their chosen discipline to return a significant contribution to their community. The Foundation's intent is to help increase the numbers of male African Americans, Native Americans, Asian Pacific Americans, Latino Americans and Multi-Racial Americans completing high school and using their talent to make a positive impact in their communities.
The foundation expects to expand the awards beyond Georgia, and make the competition available in a variety of categories as the foundation grows.
