The system is called the Nissan Leaf Home System and could replace gasoline powered generators in an emergency. 24 kilowatt-hours of power are stored in the battery. The people at Nissan USA hope that this amazing technology will soon be integrated into the US power system. The summer of 2011 has brought on some brutal storms for CT used car owners, leaving thousands without electricity, some for a week at a time.
During the day when more people need electricity, prices are higher because more is being used. Nissan Leafs could therefore be used during those higher priced times when little to no electricity is needed (e.g. during the night). This also relieves strain on the electric plants around the US.
