(prHWY.com) December 15, 2011 - Seattle, WA -- Baby names just get crazier and crazier every year. First, people were naming children after brand names like Kellogg and Hershey then it went to choosing household products like Apple and Peach as their child's first name, yet one couple in Montana took it one step further and decided to leave naming their child up to fate and use an
anagram program.
"Couples fight all the time over what to name their first daughter or son", Jane Maxim said. "We decided to eliminate the possibility of fighting and leave the naming of our first born child up to fate."
Determined to name their daughter with
fun girl games, Jane and her husband Thomas created equally sized squares that contained the numbers 3 through 9, and squares that had each letter of the alphabet on them. They had a random person they choose at the mall pick the first square with the number on it. That number was used to determine how many letters the couple would need from the bag with the alphabet squares.
"We got some strange looks when we asked people to pick a square out of the bag", Thomas said when asked about the process. "Once we explained to people what we were doing more and more people started to gather and take part."
For fear of picking all constants and no vowels the Maxims created two number bags and two bags of letters. One letter bag was for how many constants would be picked, one was for how many vowels. The letters were also separated as such.
"It took a lot of planning and we had this constant fear that we'd end up with letters like M, T and R", Jane explained. "So we came up with the two bag process to ensure we had vowels. However, I think Thomas was secretly hoping we'd get to name our child something unique like Styx."
After the letters were carefully chosen by some very excited strangers, the couple put the letters into an anagram program and came up with a list of prospective words. From that list their baby daughter's name was chosen.
"I think our parents think we've got a few screws loose but it'll be a fun story to tell our daughter when she grows up and asks why we named her the name we picked", Thomas said.
After all the dust has settled and the letters have been put into the anagram program the Maxims' daughters final name was unveiled.
"From a list of 20 possible names we picked Paige. Our daughter's name will be Paige", said a beaming Jane Maxim.
