Victor E. Acevedo organized twelve successful clean up days in and around East Los Angeles communities.

(prHWY.com) February 6, 2012 - London, TX -- Victor E. Acevedo organized twelve successful clean up days in and around East Los Angeles communities.

"We just saw that there was such a need to clean up alley ways, parks, park benches, and un-kept sidewalk grass plots," Mr. Acevedo said. "The difference has been incredible."

Organizing with the help of a several local community groups, Victor E. Acevedo has collected over 3 tons of trash and recyclables.

"I didn't think that we would make a difference, but I was wrong," Felipe, a local student and volunteer who participated in the month-long cleanup. "Even my little sister noticed the difference and it feels good to do something about our neighborhood."

Victor E. Acevedo got the idea after holding a community meeting at a local non-profit where parents shared a wish list of activities they could see.

"Really this idea came from the parents, who saw that there was a big need to clean up the trash around where their kids were playing every day after school," Mr. Acevedo said.

Victor E. Acevedo, has been a teacher since 1994 where he has helped hundreds of students and their families. He now runs a non-profit community group where he helps close the gap in literacy and community activism in this part of Los Angeles.

Mr. Acevedo contends that this is only the beginning in a positive first step in cleaning up our neighborhood. He intends to continue lobbying for more trees being planted through the neighborhood.

"This was a great first step towards cleaning up our community and making it a safe place for children and families to play and live," Mr. Acevedo. "I want to take this very enthusiastic energy and make our next clean up even bigger, more effective, and include even more members of the community."

Mr. Acevedo was able to get the help of local businesses to donate gloves, bags, and rakes, and shovels. "We were surprised to see so much help and involvement from the parents, children, small businesses, and other organizations to help get the word out.
