(prHWY.com) March 28, 2012 - Seattle, WA -- Creating the next trend-setting fashion is a lifelong dream of many of the students at the local fashion academy. Students enroll in classes having visions of seeing their own clothing designs on the runway of major fashion cities like Paris, Milan and New York. While that dream might be still a few years in the making, students at the Latest Trends Fashion Institute of Pasadena have the chance to make their mark on the fashion world.
The Latest Trends Fashion Institute is teaming up with a local dog and cat grooming company to host a fashion design contest. Contestants in the local fashion design contest will be required to create a fashion design that incorporates cat and
dog grooming supplies into an outfit that the owners can wear.
"Keeping a pet well groomed is important", said pet psychologist Aaron Sweeds. "The problem is not every pet owner carries their cat or dog grooming supplies around with them. This can present a problem when the dog needs to be groomed while on the go."
The fashion designs used for the competition must incorporate at least four basic dog grooming supplies into the design. The tools must be worn as a part of the overall fashion design, and can be completely removable at a moment's notice. Those are the only restrictions on the contest.
"Part of attending a fashion academy to become a fashion designer is learning how to overcome challenges", said dean of admissions and contest organizer, Todd Roads. "This contest teaches fashion students how to really think outside of the box, and create some practical fashion designs that people may want to wear on a daily basis."
Contest entries will be narrowed down to the top 25 fashion designs. Those fashion designs will be featured in a runway show that is fit for the stars. Invited to the fashion show will be individuals from the top fashion labels and those from the nation's top pet supply manufactures. Those individuals may be willing to offer contracts to designs they enjoy.
"It's a challenge", said fashion design student Emily Hinds. "The challenge is a good one though. I love trying to incorporate the pet supplies into an overall look that people actually want to wear. Plus, I'm a pet lover."
Early submissions to the fashion contest feature designs that have hairbands or hats that use dog grooming combs or brushes. Other fashion designs feature the tools as part of a belt or necklace. Entries must be submitted by June 10, while the runway show will be held on July 1.
