(prHWY.com) May 5, 2012 - Seattle, WA -- Yearbooks are about capturing memories and giving high school students something they can look back on and remember their years in high school. A new yearbook manufacturer has come up with a new concept that will allow high school students to create their own yearbooks.
"When talking recently with a group of high school students I realized that they all had different ideas of what should go into a yearbook", said Natasha Allen. "Some of them wanted to showcase the sports club, while others wanted to showcase the drama department. I didn't think it was really fair to pick and choose which was highlighted, because every student had a different high school experience."
Natasha Allen came up with the idea of allowing high school students to mix and match sections of a high school yearbook to create a customized version. The yearbook staff will still create the yearbook as they normally would, but instead of featuring everything in one entire book, students can pick different sections to include in their yearbook. A full version of the
yearbook will be saved in the high school's archives.
"I don't know how many years I brought the yearbook and only looked at a handful of the sections", said high school junior John Smerkee. "Now I don't have to have this huge book that I don't want 90% of it, instead I get what I want to look at, and I'm happy and so is everyone else."
Natasha Allen has created an order form for students to fill out when they order their yearbook. Students will be required to fill out which sections of the yearbook they want to order. Examples of the sections include drama, sports, arts, prom, and debate club. Students also have the choice to purchase the entire yearbook without any sections missing. The only section that every student is required to have is the section with student and staff photos.
"I refuse to allow people to eliminate that section of the yearbook", said Allen. "It just isn't right. They can customize the other parts of the book, but not that."
The price of the yearbook will vary depending upon how many sections a student chooses to include. Prices range from $10 to the full price of $55.
"We live in a society of being able to pick and choose what we want and don't want", said Allen. "Why not allow our high school students to do the same."
