(prHWY.com) June 20, 2012 - Seattle, WA -- Acne is a skincare condition that haunts many teenagers and adults. These people spend hundreds of thousands of dollars every year looking for the secret acne treatment that will help reduce puffiness and skin inflammation that causes acne. What these people don't realize is the answer to their problems lies in the type of diet they are eating.
"There is a common myth going around that greasy foods can cause acne", explained dermatologist, Dr. Huffs. "What people don't realize is that it isn't true, and that not eating any greasy foods can actually lead to acne."
Dr. Huffs conducted an extensive study of several individuals who had chronic acne problems. The study participants were asked to fill out an extensive questionnaire that detailed not only what they ate, but what they used
to try and treat the acne.
"What I discovered was that many people who had extensive acne problems had one thing in common", explained Dr. Huffs. "It wasn't what they were using for treatment or their living conditions. No, what they shared in common was their dietary habits."
Every member of the study marked down that they tended to avoid greasy or heavy foods in an effort to try and ward off the acne. Dr. Huffs decided to look further into this development to see what the source of the problems could be.
"There had to be a connection with avoiding greasy or heavy foods completely", said Dr. Huffs. "It was my goal to figure out how this was all connected."
Dr. Huffs ran numerous tests on their skin, including PH balance tests. It was discovered that the lack of greasy foods was actually drying the skin out causing the skin to become inflamed. When the skin is inflamed it tends to cause acne to appear.
"What this means is that avoiding the very food you thought would help you avoid acne breakouts actually causes it", said Dr. Huff. "The body actually needs a little grease to keep it moist and smooth. So, don't avoid that pizza just because you think it'll cause acne. Take a slice or two because it won't make a difference."
Dr. Huff's findings will be published in an academic journal for medicine. He has even taken the time to write several articles for a major women's magazine detailing his find.
"This really is a great way to treat acne", he said. "I just hope people realize that what they think they are doing to help the skin may be harming it."
