High School Reunion to be held on a Pirate Ship Themed Cruise

(prHWY.com) June 22, 2012 - Seattle, WA -- Class reunions are one of those events that people love to hate. People love to attend them, but hate reliving a time in their lives when things weren't so great. A small class from a high school in southern Florida is changing the way future classes think of class reunions.

The small graduating class of 75 students has decided to hold their entire class reunion on a pirate ship-themed cruise. The four day cruise takes people through the real life experiences that pirates went through.

"We thought this would be a fun alternative to a traditional class reunion held in some high school gym", said class reunion planner Sally McDonald. "Our school's mascot was a pirate so it wasn't that unheard of that people would like pirate things and events, so I thought we'd try this out as part of our 10 year class reunion."

The entire cruise will encompass the life of a pirate for the former high school classmates. The class will go on fishing trips, learn how to set up a plank, undergo a pseudo cannon fight, and even take a few sword fighting classes.

"The whole point of the trip is to get an idea of what it would be like to act like a pirate", explained McDonald. "I thought it would be a lot better than listening to old cheesy songs from 2002 and talk about how great our lives are, this is an experience that we will be telling our kids and grandkids about."

When the proposed pirate ship cruise was announced many former students expressed concern over the price of the trip. The cost of one person on the trip is $500 for the four-day cruise. In an effort to offset the costs, the current high school senior class held car washes, bake sales and other fundraisers to help the former students attend the class reunion.

"It's important to give back", explained senior class president Mary Willows. "If we do this for the older classes, then one day something will be done for us. Plus, this is such an awesome idea for a class reunion that it would be impossible to want to miss."

Out of the 75 graduates, 60 have RSVP'd to the reunion invitation. It is expected that all former classmates will respond to the class reunion.

"We want the entire class there", explained McDonald. "It wouldn't be the same without some of our classmates. I'll have to start hounding them to respond!"
