(prHWY.com) July 20, 2012 - Seattle, WA -- The discovery of dinosaur bones is usually reserved for some place out in the desert or in the middle of a vast green pasture. Malibu, California is the last place anyone would think to look for the discovery of dinosaur bones, but that is exactly where construction crew members found them.
"We were working on a project that involved us tearing down a few walls in an old abandoned house", said Troy Summers. "We tore down one wall and noticed a bunch of extremely large bones behind the wall. We had no clue what it was."
Thinking they may have uncovered a murder scene, the crews called 911. Police officers and investigators arrived at the scene.
"It was a mad rush", explained Summers. "People were out there taking pictures. Police taped off the area, they were taking photos of the bones, and it was like something out of a movie."
The bones were taken the local forensics lab where they were analyzed and determined not to be human remains. The bones had a distinctive animal quality to them that set them apart from human bones.
"We looked at the bones closely and knew they weren't human", explained forensic scientist Sally Smith. "We transferred them to the local museum where they were analyzed and determined to be those of a dinosaur. We aren't sure yet which dinosaur."
The question that is on everyone's minds after this discovery is how those bones got into the wall. It appears as if the previous owner was digging in his backyard and discovered the bones. He was unsure what to do with them and placed them behind a wall he was constructing so no one would find them.
"We believe that the previous owner, who was a bit eccentric may have discovered the bones and hidden them in an effort to keep it his little secret", explained police chief Danny Winters. "We know this to be true, because the
Malibu construction company that was hired found several more dinosaur bones in the yard."
The housing project has since been put on hold as archeologist conduct a massive dig. The entire front and back yard are being investigated to find more dinosaur bones.
"This is a story I'll be telling my grandkids for years to come", said Summers. "It is not every day that you find a massive dinosaur bone stuck in a wall while on the job. I'm sure they'll pass it along to their friends too!"
