revolutionary machines and complex creations that rarely see the light of day and are left to the pages of the books they were written in, until now. A local Seattle heating and cooling company is holding a competition to see who can recreate or create from scratch machines and characters that can only be found in steam punk fantasy books.
"This type of fantasy literature is really taking the world by storm", said Toni Greene, owner of Seattle Hot and Cold Heating and Cooling. "I thought that this contest would be a fun and creative way for people to express themselves while seeing what steampunk literature is all about."
The contest requires that all individuals start with a gas furnace and use it as the base of the creation. The rest of the parts can come from anything from recycle centers to old heating and cooling parts.
"We will have several categories that allow people to really bring their best creations forward", said Greene. "We will have automated creatures, still life creatures, pairs, and even flying ones. The whole idea is to really let people explore steampunk literature and their creativity."
The top machines and creatures will all go on a tour that allows these creative creations to be viewed by sci-fi and fantasy lovers all over the nation. These creations will also be available for auction for anyone who wants to display them in their house. All proceeds will go to literary programs across the nation.
"I love inventing stuff and think this is a great way to apply my love of books with my desire to be an inventor", said Anthony Hollow. "I have always wanted to make something that would be like it was out of a book, and now is my chance."
Seattle Hot and Cold Heating and Cooling will be providing all individuals with starter kits. These starter kits include the standard gas furnace that needs to be the base of the creation, along with some parts and ways to start the invention process.
"There are going to be a lot of fun and wacky creations", said Greene. "I can just see it now. These will be some of the best and most lively things I've ever seen, and who knows they could just inspire a writer to write the next great novel."
