(prHWY.com) August 1, 2012 - Riverside, MO -- As a part of its ongoing efforts to be among the top companies in Kansas City, Kansas City roofing company, MB Roofing Inc. has recently rolled out some changes in compliance with the changes implemented by the International Energy Code Commission (IECC).

Among the changes the company is planning to roll out is the use of more energy efficient asphalt shingle roofing and insulation materials as the IECC update included more stringent guidelines for heat efficiency.

The IECC update

According to sources, the IECC update can help homeowners achieve a 30% savings in terms of annual energy consumption, as the updates focused on insulation and glazing energy requirements. While compliance to the code can cause homeowners to spend more on their roofing projects, experts say that the cost can immediately be recouped by in terms of energy savings.

The 2012 Energy Code is drafted by the International Code Commission. Established in 1994, the ICC was formed to provide comprehensive codes for both residential and commercial construction projects. The code provided by the council is now widely used throughout the US.

Most of the updates included in the IECC apply to new construction homes, but renovations such as roofing jobs that expose a home by 50% are still greatly affected.

Demand for green buildings

The high demand for energy efficient construction has encouraged more Kansas City roofers and construction companies to utilize more energy efficient materials and procedures. According to an MB Roofing Inc. consultant, the demand for cool roofing installations among Kansas City homeowners has experienced a significant rise in the last 2 years. "Homeowners are starting to see just how effective energy efficient products are when it comes to lowering energy bills." he adds.

The Energy Star

Aside from the IECC, the EPA also provides an alternative way for homeowners to enjoy the benefits of lower energy bills.

Established around the same time as the IECC, the Energy Star is a government-backed initiative meant to provide energy efficient ratings for a wide range of products. The Energy Star can now be found on construction products, kitchen appliances, electronics, and devices that consume electricity.

"Energy efficient roofs lower cooling bills by deflecting heat away from the roof space, so instead of soaking up all the heat, the attic space remains relatively cooler," a Kansas City roofer from MB Roofing Inc. explains. "The cooler your attic becomes, the less heat your home absorbs. The cooler your home, the less energy your air conditioning consumes."

Roofing products that carry the Energy Star Seal not only allow homeowners to cut back on energy costs, but also qualifies them for a tax credit of 10% of the cost of the product, (not including labor costs) up to $500. It has been proven that using roofing products with the Energy Star Seal can help save up to 15-25% of cooling costs.

In an interview, a project manager says:"As one of the most established roofing companies in Kansas City, MB Roofing Inc. will continue to stay updated on the latest energy efficient trends so we can provide better services to homeowners."
