No more 4 weeks waiting - NOW you can get your diagnosis in 24 hours - CE-IVD A full In-Vitro Diagnostics (IVD) is now available that reliably identifies 21 pathogens causing dermatomycoses.
(prHWY.com) August 2, 2012 - Dresden, United Kingdom -- Dresden, Germany, August 02, 2012 -- In a clinical performance assessment Biotype Diagnostic has confirmed the clinical relevance of its new molecular multi parameter test Mentype®MycoDermQS that reliably identifies 21 pathogens causing dermatomycoses (also known as dermatophytosis, ringworm or specifically athlete's foot). Due to its diagnostic accuracy this product is certified as full In-Vitro Diagnostics (IVD) wherefore an easy and straightforward implementation in everyone's laboratory routine is enabled. In comparison to conventionally applied analytics this new approach mediates more than 90 % gain in efficiency and reduces the waiting time for lab-results upon testing, for both, physicians and patients, from 4 weeks to only one day. This test enables diagnosis of several patient samples in parallel and, moreover, the operating procedure can be standardized.
Dermatomycosis is one of the most common infectious diseases. With regard to the steadily increasing numbers of antimycotic resistances through broad-spectrum medication, and, with respect to the risk of adverse reactions caused by divers systemically applied medication, an early onset of a specific therapy is of incremental importance. However, the strength of therapy will only be as good as its preceding diagnostics. Yet, the analytical standard represents an initial microscopic inspection followed by long lasting cultivation of potential pathogens found on patient's specimens such as skin, hairs, nails or swabs. To meet the needs of anguished patients, this time consuming and fault-prone method might not be the right choice to significantly reduce the rising number of samples.
Molecular diagnostics in a multi parameter format rapidly identifies specific DNA-sequences that are unique to respective dermatomycosis causing pathogens. In terms of specificity and sensitivity the performed clinical study proved that already very small amounts of sample material account for robust results and produce reliable and distinct DNA patterns. Thus, misinterpretations that e.g. occur by composite samples through dominant growth of a species, which causes a change of the species spectrum, can be excluded. The risk for contaminations is minimised through circumventing long lasting cultivation of pathogens on agar plates. Thus, this molecular analysis dramatically reduces dead - time and costs while significantly increases convenience and reliability. Taken together, this new IVD product provides a rapid aetiology that in turn enables an early onset of a targeted therapy.
Mentype®MycoDermQSidentifies the most common dermatomycosis causing pathogens in less than a day.
