August 9, 2012 -- ATLANTA -The tagline is "Donate as you caffeinate." Honduran Joe coffee roasters are donating 25% of online sales to victims of the Sikh temple shooting in Oak Creek, Wisconsin. Customers can direct funds to the Victims Memorial Fund by using the code PEACE at checkout.
The Oak Creek Rampage :
Wade Michael Page, 40, arrived at the Sikh Temple of Wisconsin on Sunday with a 9 mm handgun. Attacking men gathered for worship, he killed six and critically wounded another two. Wade then opened fire upon the first police officer who responded to the scene. He was shot by another officer and then fatally shot himself. Page was allegedly a white supremacist and part of a "hate rock" band.
Page had a tattoo commemorating the September 11 attack on the World Trade Center. Many have speculated that he was directing his anger at Muslims toward the Sikh community.
After a several-day investigation by the FBI, temple members returned totheir house of worship today. As cleanup begins, the Oak Creek temple community is grappling with the issue of security enhancements; posting armed guards seems ironic for a temple that normally welcomes the world with "all four doors open."
