(prHWY.com) August 13, 2012 - Waiheke Island, New Zealand -- Velvet Lies - Muted Cries is Melanie Wadham's vivid, and raw personal account recounting the vicious battleground of her abusive childhood and how she found a path to healing her deepest wounds.
"I always knew, that I would one day find the courage to share my story and my journey of day-to-day healing from trauma and abuse, post traumatic stress disorder and depression," says Wadham who wrote Velvet Lies - Muted Cries to help other women who still suffer in silence and shame.
Melanie's South African childhood was violent. She hid in closets away from the muffled sounds of beatings and smothered screams until one dark day she was witness to her mother's murder. Melanie was eleven years old.
Wadham writes, "I was a casualty of a cold war."
Life without a mother left Melanie with no home, no family, and no protection. The role of being an adult came early. Violence continued in her foster home and she was abused sexually. Melanie emerged from her childhood with a crippling sense of powerlessness. She felt lost and broken.
After years of bad choices and hiding the horrors of her past, Melanie ultimately found freedom in telling her truth. Velvet Lies - Muted Cries is a compelling true story of courage, survival and finding one's voice. Follow one woman's transcendence from a broken, forgotten little girl to a woman with the power (and determination) to heal herself and others.
