Castleford Town U13s returned to the UK today having spent the past week in Spain representing England playing against Spanish opposition. The group who also found time to see the sights of Barcelona and take a stadium and museum tour of FC Barcelona (Camp Nou) played 4 matches against quality opposition and although they only managed one draw they came away having had a great week.

Castleford Town Under 13s team from Leeds have been fundraising for the past 12 months to allow them to go on a football tour to Barcelona, Spain at the end of July 2012. They sought out the help of local company Football Tours International who helped with the organisation of the accommodation, transfers, shopping and sightseeing tour, stadium tour and organisation of the friendly matches at the 5* Football Salou facility.

The group of 50+ people including players, staff, parents and siblings stayed at the 3* CYE Holiday Centre in Salou only 200 meters from the beach ensuring they had a holiday feel to their tour. The accommodation was on a half board basis and with spacious rooms and a nice pool area it was the ideal location for the group to relax between their pre-planned itinerary.

Within the itinerary Football Tours International had organised for a shopping and sightseeing trip to the centre of Barcelona where the group took in the famous sites of the Ramblas, the Sagrada Familia and the Camp Nou home to FC Barcelona. A pre booked stadium and museum tour of the famous stadium had the players and parents in admiration of the size and history of the stadium along with the mass of trophies won by this world renowned club.

The matches Football Tours International had organised were played at the 5* Salou Football Centre The facilities were of a similar standard to a Premier League training complex. A viewing gallery that included numerous changing rooms, a club shop and a café over looked the two 3G artificial pitches, and 4 grass pitches making a perfect setting for the players to show what they could do.

The team had to play in 30+ degree heat and can be proud of their performances even though they lost three of the 4 matches and drew the other, afterwards the team were able reflect and appreciate the facilities and the standard of the young Spanish players. Some of the football they played was of a very high standard and you could see the difference in knowledge and ability of the players.
