(prHWY.com) September 3, 2012 - Wilmington, DE -- Sex survey on swingers provides a glimpse into the world of swinging. Results of the survey reveal that swinger activity is unusual mixture of conservative and wild sexual behavior. Survey suggests that the common perceptions of both what swinging is and what swingers do in the bedroom may be far different than what most people expected.

Results of social research focused on the phenomenon of swinging in North America have revealed some interesting behavior. An extensive sex survey which polled swingers from a popular online swinger dating website asked questions about values, beliefs and activities of swingers. The survey asked swingers how they got involved in swinging, what kinds of things swingers do, and what they feel about the swinger lifestyle.

Part of the research revealed that most swingers are very cautious and deliberative in their decisions to join the swinging lifestyle. Nearly ¾ quarters of swingers expressed that they spent some time weighing the pros and cons of becoming a swinger before taking the plunge. Swingers strongly discount the idea that becoming a swinger is impulsive. Less than 10% felt that they entered the swinging lifestyle spontaneously or without planning.

The survey on Swinger Social Network also polled extensively on swingers' attitudes and beliefs about swinging. Overall, swingers were extremely positive and encouraging about the swinger lifestyle. Three out of four swingers agreed or strongly agreed with the statement that the biggest advantage to becoming a swinger was the increased quality of sex. On overwhelming 90% of swingers agreed or agreed strongly that an advantage to becoming a swinger is the increased sexual variety and diversity that they enjoy. But the survey also revealed that sex at home was also greatly improved. Over 75% said that swinging "improved the sex they have with theirpartner.

Those who thought that swinging was nothing more than key parties and wife swapping are in for a surprise. Swinger research reveals that over 90% of swinger couples have been involved in a threesome--with the addition of one sex partner rather than swapping. Most commonly a single female joins the couple, but many swinger couples admitted to preferring having another man join them in their bed. Interestingly, only 1/3 of the respondents said this additional swing partner could be considered polyamorous, suggesting that the sex was purely recreational for most swinger couples.

The survey also reveals a unique language and understanding of sex that is far different from mainstream. Although over 76% admitted to having sex while others were also having sex nearby where everyone could observe each other--only 36% of swingers considered such activity "swinging." In another series of questions about what truly constitutes "full swapping" with another couple, 62% of swingers held a Clintonesque view that oral sex was not fully swapping.

For about ¼ of swingers it was not the activity that the kind of sex you had with others that determined what was swinging, but rather if you were doing it with your partner too--or at least nearby. Another ¼ of swingers were also not concerned with the specific sex acts being performed, but rather if there was an emotional attachment. This cohort was more concerned with making sure the swinging was recreational and not emotional. These data suggest that the ideas, definitions and activities of swingers are far more diverse than those outside the lifestyle understand.
