CAT Preparation tips@ More female aspirants likely this year: CAT convenor

(prHWY.com) September 5, 2012 - Noida, India -- While the number of CAT takers seems to be stabilizing over the last two-three years, the ratio in favour of female applicants is, however, increasing. The number of female candidates is expected to be higher this year compared with 2011.

According to CAT organizers, the current registration trend indicates a slightly higher percentage of female candidates. The final registration data, however, will only be released after the process of the registration & scheduling windows ends.

"It is encouraging to see more female candidates coming forward this year to take CAT in an effort to get admission to the IIMs," Professor SSS Kumar, convenor of CAT 2012, said.
Registrations for CAT 2012 began on July 30 and the voucher sale will be over on September 17. The online registration process closes on September 19. CAT 2012 will be held in a window of 21 days --- from October 1 to November 6.

While the total number of CAT applicants had increased by 1,000 last year, the number of female candidates had gone up by around 2,400. The total number of female applicants for CAT 2011 stood at 56,050 compared with 53,732 in 2010. Out of 2.05 lakh candidates who registered for CAT last year, 1.85 lakh actually took the test.

The increasing number of female candidates is not only confined to the CAT examination, the trend is identical in various IIM campuses as well. Reciprocating to the interest shown by female candidates on CAT, different IIMs have accommodated more of them.

IIM Ranchi admitted a total of 42 girl students this year. Not a single female candidate had got admitted in the previous batch. While IIM Bangalore achieved a new level of 100 girl students in its new batch, IIM Lucknow admitted a record 167 in its PGP and PGP-ABM batches for the 2012-14 academic session. IIM Kozhikode has also designed its admission process to increase the intake of female students.
