IRMA exam has maintained a stable pattern over the years. The duration of the exam is two hours. The four sections of the exam are English comprehension, quantitative ability, analytical reasoning, and issues of social concern. The overall difficulty level of the paper is easy to moderate.

Let us have a look at the patterns of the papers over the past five years:
IRMA 2007

The English comprehension section is a mix of reading comprehension and verbal ability. While the RC part had 15 questions from two passages, 25 questions were asked from the verbal ability section.
The quantitative ability section consisted of arithmetic, speed math, data interpretation and number series.
The analytical reasoning section was the toughest one as it had questions from critical reasoning area.
The questions on issues of social concern included government schemes, definitions of terms, economics, agriculture and poverty.

IRMA 2008

The English comprehension section had one reading comprehension passage and the rest of the questions were on verbal ability.
The quantitative ability section included topics like arithmetic, data interpretation and speed math.

The analytical reasoning section was of moderate difficulty level.
The issues of social concern section was tricky in nature. The common topics were government schemes, definitions of terms, economics, agriculture and poverty.

IRMA 2009

The English comprehension section was a bit different from previous years. The RC had 10 questions on the passage and five on vocabulary.
The quantitative ability section had questions broadly from speed math, arithmetic, data sufficiency, data interpretation and Venn Diagram.
The analytical reasoning section was of moderate difficulty level.
The issues of social concern were the toughest section.

IRMA 2010

The section of English comprehension had one passage with 15 questions. The other questions were on synonyms and antonyms, sentence completion, grammar, para jumbles and cloze test.
The quantitative ability section consisted of data sufficiency, modern math, percentage, and algebra.
In the analytical reasoning section, 25 questions each were asked on logical reasoning and verbal reasoning.
The issues of social concern gave emphasis on economics and rural infrastructure. This section was the trickiest.

IRMA 2011

In the English Comprehension section, apart from the regular questions, a new question type was introduced.
The quantitative ability section bore the topics of data interpretation, data sufficiency apart from quant-based problems.
The analytical reasoning section was the toughest. There was a new kind of set where students were asked to select statements containing data as answers to given questions.
The overall difficulty of the issues of social concern section was moderate to tough. The questions were asked from agricultural and rural development, rural economy, organizations, personalities, awards and important days, etc.
