However, is increase in the number of lawyers in Punjab really an indicator of development? Do a high number of Chandigarh lawyers mean that more people have access to legal help now? We talked to a few lawyers to see their side of the story. One of the senior lawyers at Navkiran Singh and Associates, one of the most prominent law firms in Chandigarh, told us, "Yes, the number of lawyers in the Tricity, in fact, in the entire country has gone up considerably. Now, if people have to hire an advocate in Chandigarh, they have many options. Whether they are looking for civil lawyers, criminal lawyers, human rights lawyers, or a lawyer for any other field, they have several options. Yes, there is also an increase in the number of the law cases that are filed every day, hence the increase in the number of lawyers. However, what people do not realize is that the growth of population has been a geometric progression whereas the number of advocates has only grown arithmetically. Though there are 100,000 law firms in the city the population of the city too is bordering at 1000,000."
