(prHWY.com) September 25, 2012 - Seattle, WA -- The Smithsonian is one of the nation's most popular museums. It holds some of the nation's oldest, most beloved artifacts and items. Everything from popular movie memorabilia to historical artifacts is housed in this museum. The idea of housing all these items in one place may sound great, but what happens when you have to move so many cherished items? That is a challenge the Smithsonian is facing.

"We need to complete renovate the entire building", said the director of the Smithsonian. "While it might not seem like it would be a big deal to move these beloved items; it is. These items are fragile, one of a kind and can't be replaced. That is why we are working closely with a moving pod company to help us with this task."

The Smithsonian is currently working with Cherished Treasures Inc to create specialized moving pods that can store and move these precious items. Moving pods are commonly used by individuals who are moving from one location to another. People place their valuables in a rectangular box and call the movers when finished to move it to the new location.

"We are trying to create moving pods that will cushion the items, store the items at the temperature they need to be stored and protect the items", said Holly Main, owner of Cherished Treasures Inc. "The Smithsonian came to us with their problem and we jumped at the opportunity to help. Even if it does take a little extra work to create these new moving pods, it will be worth it in the end."

Some of the world's most popular items will be moved to the new location. Items such as the first spacesuit that was worn by the first American's on the moon, a version of Kermit the Frog, and several full scale dinosaur bones are all in need of being stored and transported.

"What we plan on doing is loading all these items into the specialized moving pods", said the director. "We will move them to a secure location that will be monitored 24 hours a day. When the renovations are complete the moving pods will be moved back to the museum and we will start the unloading process."

The entire moving process is estimated to take approximately two weeks. Once the items are on the moving pods they will be stored at an undisclosed location for three months and moved back to their original location.
