Congressman Denny Rehberg To Attend Event For Lazarex Cancer Foundation September 29 On The U.S.S. Hornet
Joins Local Mayor and University president on VIP Guest List
(prHWY.com) September 26, 2012 - Danville, CA -- Danville, CA, September 26, 2012 -- Lazarex Cancer Foundation's gala "Battle for a Lifetime" with its theme of resilience and courage will entertain some high profile attendees on board the U.S.S. Hornet for their annual fundraiser on Sept. 29 at 707 Hornet Dr., Pier 3 in Alameda. The guest list includes: Congressman Denny Rehberg (Montana), Mayor of Alameda Marie Gilmore and Drexel University President Jon Fry. Also among the VIP guests will be Lazarex's own heroes - the cancer patients and family members that Lazarex serves who are engaged in their own battle of a lifetime. The Lazarex Cancer Foundation provides financial assistance to assist with costs associated with possibly lifesaving FDA clinical trials.

"Anyone who's lived long enough has either battled cancer personally or known someone close who has," said Congressman Denny Rehberg (R-Montana), Chairman of the Labor, Health & Human Services and Education Appropriations Subcommittee. "The Lazarex Cancer Foundation can be a literal life-saver for end stage cancer patients who can't otherwise afford the clinical trials that could save their lives. I look forward to continuing this important effort to find workable solutions for the issues and costs facing cancer patients and their ability to participate in clinical trials." Working with Lazarex, Rehberg has helped champion the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the National Cancer Institute (NCI) efforts to improve clinical trial participation and accrual rates.

Guest speaker Louis Zamperini, 95-year-old bestselling author, motivational speaker, 1936 Olympian, and WWII bombardier will share his extraordinary life story of achievement, survival and forgiveness. "Louis Zamperini's message of hope and personal perseverance under the most trying circumstances is a perfect match for our mission of providing hope and time to late stage cancer patients and their families," said Lazarex founder and President Dana Dornsife.

Since 2007 Lazarex has been helping cancer patients find FDA-approved clinical trials and providing financial assistance to cover costs, like travel and lodging, for those trials which can be anywhere in the United States. These treatments have given months or even years of life for patients when conventional medicine has failed. Some patients are now in remission.

The gala will entertain and inspire on many levels. The venue has a rich and fascinating history, docent led tours will be offered. Guests will be greeted by a military escort and entertained upon arrival by The Swingin' Blue Stars with Andrews Sisters-style tunes. After dinner JamFunkShus will get guests up and moving with numbers from the 60s to the 90s. Casino games will be available throughout the evening along with both a live and silent auction.

Tickets to the Lazarex Battle for a Lifetime are $350 per person and can be purchased at https://lazarex.ejoinme.org/USSHornetGala. Dress is cocktail attire.
