The registration process of the exam is going on and the test will be held from December 15, 2012, to January 6, 2013. The last date to register is December 13.

On the rationale behind shifting to the computer-based format, a spokesperson from ICFAI Business School said, "The test now can be conducted for more number of days, thereby offering flexibility to candidates in taking it as per their convenience."

Not only the testing process, but the application process too has gone online. "The application process has also been simplified. Candidates can now register online at his/her convenience and book the test schedule accordingly. This greatly reduces the administrative load of the institute."

The computer-based test will be conducted by Attest of Aptech. However, the exam pattern will remain unchanged.

Let us have a look at the exam pattern and the analysis of the past years.

The duration of IBSAT is 120 minutes. There are four sections with a total of 125 questions. The sections are verbal ability, reading comprehension & quantitative aptitude, data sufficiency and data interpretation. There is no negative marking.

The verbal ability section had 50 questions. The topics were synonyms-antonyms, analogy, para jumble, error correction, replacing words, word substitution, fill in the blanks, idioms & phrases and cloze test. The reading comprehension section had three passages of moderate length with 25 direct questions. The difficulty level of these sections was easy to moderate.

The quantitative ability section was moderate to difficult and had 25 questions. The topics were number theory, algebra, arithmetic, mensuration, permutation & combination, function and progression. The data sufficiency & data interpretation section also had 25 questions. The DI area had two cases, both of which were based on tables. The first case had a single table with some missing data and one needed some time to analyze and complete the table to answer the questions. The second set had three tables with some missing data. However, it was comparatively easy to find out those data to answer the questions. The difficulty level was moderate.
