CAT 2012 First Day@ No surprise at CAT Day 1, slot 1, Quant section a bit tough

The first slot of the Day 1 of CAT 2012 witnessed a low turnout. The Jaipuria Institute of Management Noida campus saw only seven candidates appearing for the first slot. There was not much surprise in the pattern. "The difficulty level was moderate. The quantitative ability section had some tough and challenging questions. The data interpretation questions were calculation intensive," mentioned Vinayak Kudva, product head, IMS Learning.

Arks Srinivas, CEO, VistaMind Education, said, "The verbal ability questions were a bit tougher, but the logical reasoning questions were very simple. The exam had no surprises and the difficulty level was moderate and manageable."

Aishwarya, a CAT taker, said: "The quantitative ability questions were very tough. I didn't come across questions of such difficulty in mock tests. I performed well in the verbal ability & logical reasoning section."

CAT 2012, which is being conducted in a 21-day window, will be held till November 6. Around 2.14 lakh candidates have registered for this prime MBA entrance test. The number represents a growth of about 4.52 per cent compared with CAT 2011. The test is being taken in 61 centers across India.

There are two sections -- quantitative ability & data interpretation and verbal ability & logical reasoning. The first section which arrives at the screen is quantitative ability & data interpretation. Though it is permissible to move within the section, moving between the sections is not allowed.

The sections are time bound. Each of the section is of 70 minutes duration, making CAT a 140-minute test.
CAT 2012 will be conducted till Tuesday, November 6, 2012. The result will be declared on Wednesday, January 9, 2013.
