(prHWY.com) October 13, 2012 - Detroit, MI -- Torrey Alvord Leroy is at a very important stage of her life where she is working to complete her university degree and enter the professional working world. Torrey A. Leroy is fortunate to be earning her Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, and it is her interests in "advertising, media communications, and business consulting" that drives her to academic success.
However, as important to Torrey Leroy as academic success is, she knows that helping the community around her is important as well. Before she started studying sociology at Yale University, Torrey A. Leroy had been involved in a number of community activities. Her community work as a Beachland Buddies Camp Counselor and a Whiting Lane Special Needs Summer School paraprofessional from 2006 to 2009 would offer Torrey Alvord Leroy not only a chance to help special needs children in her community, but also allow to hone her communication skills as well. Working with special needs children through both programs certainly put her communication skills to the test as she had to find the best methods of communicating with all types of people.
Sports are of special importance to Torrey Leroy. She has enjoyed participating in sports and soccer in particular, so Torrey A. Leroy was thrilled to work as a Unified Sports Hall High Volunteer from 2004 - 2006. Torrey Alvord Leroy was involved in sports before and during her Yale University education. She even was Yale Women's Soccer Team's 2011 MVP. And through Yale Women's Soccer Afterschool Program, Torrey A. Leroy performed volunteer work for the New Haven Boys & Girls Club in 2012. She currently works as a volunteer soccer coach for inner city youth.
Other acts of volunteer work that
Torrey Leroy has participated in include volunteering for West Hartford Human Services Department, where she helped to coordinate the Town Food Bank with both collection and distribution. Through the West Hartford Human Services Department, Torrey Alvord Leroy also "provided Hillcrest Neighborhood Outreach Center after-school tutoring and assisted the Town Mobile Foodshare Program."
