Storage pods are often used to hold items in one location while people move to a new location. These storage pods are usually moved by the rental company, but a new rental company has come up with a unique storage situation; a storage pod that people can drive.
"People will often put all their items in a storage pod and then the place will move the pod to the new location", said Jason Hughes, owner of Move It Storage. "We came up with a new design for the pods where there is a built in car or truck and the people just hop in and move it themselves."
This idea might sound very similar to a moving truck, but it is very different. Moving trucks actually have huge wheels on the back and in order to put items into the truck people have to move up and down a ramp. The storage pod is level with the ground, which makes it easier to put items inside.
In addition to the wheels that move, people can hop in the front and drive the pods. Most pods need to be taken by a flatbed, but these pods are like their own cars.
"We had numerous customers complain about how they had to walk up and down the ramp to get the items inside the truck", said Hughes. "This inspired us to create the moving truck storage pod. The wheels are located in the back and when the pod is not moving the wheels are pushed up and the pod is level with the ground."
A surprising number of people have shown their support for this new storage pod. People who need to move extremely heavy objects like entertainment centers, desks, beds and pianos have been using these storage pods.
"We have a lot of people who want to use this storage pod
specifically for heavy objects", said Hughes. "They like the pod because they can just walk on and store the items. There is no climbing involved. In fact, we are almost rented out of these types of pods every weekend. It's amazing."
Other storage companies have jumped on the bandwagon with this new unique design for the pods. They have already offered thousands of dollars in order to carry the pods that were created by Hughes.
"It's only a matter of time before people see these unique driving pods all over the country", said Hughes.
