(prHWY.com) October 17, 2012 - Lisle, IL -- Chicago, Illinois, September 29, 2012: The Corporate Learning Institute recently completed an empirical study of the type of organizational training need most frequently sought in web searches. CLI partner Dr. Susan Cain found that leadership training and development was the number one type of training sought. "I was surprised", Dr. Cain admitted. "I really thought in this economy that other more pressing training needs might take precedent, like innovation training or even project team development. But we found that leadership training is the number one searched-for type of training."

Leadership development training is critical for developing a vital leadership pipeline. "If you don't offer training and support for your leaders, and leave their development up to chance, you could be in danger of performance lapses or issues", Dr. Cain added. The Corporate learning Institute offers many skills building workshops to tackle specific leadership skills as well as The Leadership Challenge training program. "We are often asked to custom-design leadership development training so we have responded with a series of training options," Dr. Cain commented. CLI designs as well as delivers leadership development training programs. Many leaders benefit from a 360º feedback assessment, so CLI offers several different versions that allow clients to select the best one for them.

We also focus our leadership development training on the specific needs of the organization", Dr. Cain continued, "So that means that one organization's leaders may need more work in clarifying communication, delegating, or even collaborating. Our leadership development programs can include those issue and skills like a canned program cannot", Dr. Cain concluded.

Leadership development training not only improves leader's performance. It impacts follower performance as well. According to Harvard Business Review Daily Alert (August, 2012), leaders who fail to engage their followers or who appear indifferent are follower needs are more poorly rated then leaders who are seen as negative. Developing effective leaders to connect with follower needs is a critical success criterion. Left to chance, leader may or may not have the skills or abilities to truly identify and meet the needs of their constituent followers.

Leadership development training is often under-funded and undervalued in organizations. It is important that organizations take an honest look at their current performance levels and remember that training leaders impact many more contributors than the leaders themselves.
