MBAUniverse.com took the feedback of test takers and experts to gather information on the exam.
According to them, the difficulty level was on the higher side. Arks Srinivas, CEO, VistaMind Education, says, "The difficulty level of the exam has been increasing with every passing day. Initially, only the Quantitative Ability section is tough, but now the Verbal Ability section is getting difficult as well."
Let us have a look at the section-wise analysis.
Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation
The Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation was the tougher section among the two. The Quantitative Ability area had questions on algebra, geometry, mensuration and function. There were no questions from permutation & combination or time & distance.
The Data Interpretation area had around nine questions. Out of the three sets, two questions were common for all the test takers, whereas one set was different. The DI questions were calculation intensive.
Gaurav Srivastava, a candidate of CAT 2012 who took the test on the fifth day, "Overall, the section was tricky. DI was good but a bit lengthy. I attempted 16 questions in the section."
Verbal Ability & Logical Reasoning
This section was of the moderate difficulty level and compared to the first section was easier. The Verbal Ability area had questions from reading comprehension, Para jumbles, sentence correction, fill in the blanks, grammar and vocabulary. The questions on the RC passages were mostly direct. A couple of them were tricky, such as 'what's the tone of the author and the theme of the passage'. 'Choose the last line of the paragraph' was also a tricky question.
Sanchi, a CAT 2012 taker from Mumbai, observes, "If the passages are easy and direct, the questions are of tricky and ambiguous type. If the passages are tricky, the questions were difficult."
Logical Reasoning had three questions with total of nine sub questions. The difficulty level was very easy and doable.
CAT 2012 has started from October 11 and will end on November 6. The exam will be taken by around 2.14 lakh candidates.
