CAT Day 12 Analysis: CAT 2012; Day 12 passes off on expected lines
CAT 2012 seems to be following a more-or-less same pattern in terms of questions and the level of difficulty.
(prHWY.com) October 27, 2012 - Noida, India -- Barring one or two aberrations, CAT 2012 seems to be following a more-or-less fixed pattern in terms of questions and the level of difficulty. The morning slot of the 12th day of CAT 2012, conducted on October 26, was no exception.

According to Gautam Puri, vice-chairman, Career Launcher, "With a few exceptions, today's paper was easy to moderate. You cannot expect all the questions to be easy in the most sought after MBA entrance test. However, the score will ultimately depend on the ability of candidates to identify and pick right questions."

According to another expert who did not wish to be quoted, "The CAT 2012 in its second half window is throwing the difficulty level that is similar to the first half. The questions are of the mixed difficulty level and demand more of common sense than formulae."

Giving a more holistic view, Arks Srinivas, CAT expert & CEO, VistaMind Education, said: "The first half of the CAT window has already passed. Now, it can be concluded that the difficulty level this year is well reflected in the less number of attempted question by most of the candidates. For last two-three years, candidates would attempt about 50 questions. But his year, it has come down to around 35. This shows that the difficulty level was more this year than the previous two-three years. The first section of the paper so far has been a little more difficult but that gets offset with less difficulty level of the second section that comprises DI & LR," he said.

Mr Srinivas said the rest of the CAT window was expected to carry the similar difficulty level and many of the questions might get repeated.

Prashast Gupta, a candidate from Noida, said, "Quant was moderately difficult while verbal section was lengthy but easy. DI had questions based on bar diagram and pie chart. I attempted 20 and 24 questions, respectively."

Satish Chandra of Delhi said, "I found both the sections moderate to difficult. Quant didn't have permutation & combination, which was surprising. DI had 9 questions which were tricky. In the verbal section, questions from logical reasoning were a bit difficult. Passages were lengthy as well."

Now, let us have a look on the section-wise analysis.

Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation

The section was easy to moderate in nature. In Quant, almost all the topics were covered with focus on geometry (6 questions) and function (5 questions). In data interpretation, some questions tested candidates' analytical powers.

Verbal Ability & Logical Reasoning

Expectedly, the focus was on passages which were lengthy. Questions asked from the passages were also not very straight forward. Logical reasoning questions were tricky.

The 21-day CAT window will end on Nov 6.
