(prHWY.com) November 6, 2012 - Pleasantville, NY -- Kini TunTun is a colloquial term derived from the language of the Yoruba people of theWestern Region of Nigeria meaning 'What's New'. This term is the central focus of KiniTunTun not just the title of the site; acting as a summary of what we bring forth to our audience which is the Newest Events, Trends and Hang Out spots of an African Origin with emphasis on West Africa.
With the fast growing population of the African Diaspora, in particular in the United Kingdom there has been a growing interest in 'Back Home', the 'Motherland' but not quite the same growth in awareness in events that present the culture of Africa. This is where Kini TunTun intended to fill the gap where it seemed that only a select few or those who knew about such events had access to them; Kini TunTun aimed to present places of interest in regards to Africa to all people throughout the United Kingdom.
Founder of Kini TunTun, Cobi-Jane Akinrele, discovered the issue of little promotion made available to those outside the 'clique' in many of these African Movie Premieres, Award Ceremonies and Music Festivals and thought it would be great if there was a platform in which such events were promoted on in an accessible way.
Kini TunTun came to Miss Akinrele fairly randomly; she states that she had wanted to attend FELA! The Musical with her friends for her birthday but never quite managed to find out the details of the showing until it was too late. The British born Nigerian grew up listening to the likes of Tony Allen, Fela Kuti and Ebenezer Obey from her Father's Collection of African Classics and similar to most African children in her generation had to endure the lengthy hours watching African Movies at family gatherings. This is where her interest for Africa came from.
The passion did not arrive until she met Leke Babalola, the Chairman of E-Beeze and fellow church member, with an enquiry of how to start of a blog. Before long this idea of a blog spiralled into the formation of Kini TunTun as E-Beeze decided to power Kini TunTun via their OlympiMania project and in May 2012 the site went live.
Initially the plan was to create a blog about West Africa with emphasis on events of a West African culture but now it seems as though Kini TunTun is taking up a role as a site of information for the latest events of a West African nature thus making such events available to all, ranging from the Pan-Africa Conference held in Oxford to screeningsof Belong by Bola Agbaje.
Kini TunTun is still in its infancy, with the team starting to grow with the help of their chief editor Grace Akingbade and the support of the team at E-Beeze there is still a lot to come from Kini TunTun so be expectant.
