(prHWY.com) November 16, 2012 - Seattle, WA -- Most little girls have a dream of becoming a princess of some far off land, but very few ever grow up to become one. One local hardware store in Portland, Oregon is trying to make numerous little girls' dreams come true by creating palatial wonderlands that can sit in the backyard.
"When my daughter was three or four, she went through a phase where she really wanted to be a princess", explained Tom Jones of Evergreen Lumber. "I tried to paint her room in beautiful pink colors and make it all pretty, but then I thought wouldn't it be cool to have a palace of her own. That was when I came up with the idea of transforming storage pods into palaces."
Tom Jones came up with the idea to take older, abandoned
storage pods and turn them into little palaces. He takes the interior of the storage pod and paints it beautiful pastel colors and creates tiny little balconies on the sides of the storage pods.
"It really does look like a tiny little castle when I'm finished", said Jones. "There are little towers and a huge ballroom and other things that resemble a palace."
The tiny little palaces have really taken off around the Portland community. After Tom Jones created his first one for his daughter, the entire community started inquiring about where they could get one of their own.
"I hadn't even had the tiny palace for my daughter more than a month and people would come up and knock on the door asking where I got the palace", said Jones. "It was then that I realized I could really start selling these things to the public if I wanted to and that's how it took off."
Tom Jones now takes orders for the tiny palaces. He can customize the palaces to meet each little girl's wants and needs. He can change up the color scheme, create different rooms and even place different towers around the palace to give it a unique look.
"I have to say that every castle that I've built looks different", explained Jones. "It really makes all the girls feel special and like a princess and that is the ultimate goal."
The response to the tiny palaces has been overwhelming.
"I love my palace", said five year-old, Tina Sanders. "I really feel like a princess and all my friends love coming to visit and play in the castle. It really is fun."
