(prHWY.com) November 19, 2012 - Seattle, WA -- Building friendships is a major building block of the Girl Scouts. Troops all over the country try to form bonds with each other that will last a lifetime, but that can often be difficult as many troops are unable to afford to pay the high price tag that comes with traveling all over the country. One Girl Scout troop in Mississippi may have come up with a solution for that - a nationwide game night.
"We love forming bonds and friendships with other troops across the country", said Courtney Miles, a member of the Mississippi Girl Scout troop. "We just don't have the money that is needed to travel and visit these other troops, so I thought we'd come up with a new and unique way to form bonds with other troops."
Courtney Miles and her troop decided to organize a nationwide game night that invited several troops from all across the country to participate. The troops would be connected via Skype and would be able to communicate with each other throughout the evening.
"Skype really allows us to connect with other troops all across the country", explained troop leader Amanda Time. "When I was a girl scout we didn't have Skype and had to write letters by hand to our pen pals. I really think my girls came up with a
creative and fun way to connect with other Girl Scout troops. I applaud their ability to think outside the box."
The girls plan on creating a list of activities and events that the girls can do together. Some of these include an interactive board game that allows the troops to play against each other despite the distance between them.
"We had a technology firm approach us and offer to create custom made board games for the girls", said Time. "I think it would be really fun and really allow the girls to take part in fun girl games together. I am really grateful for the technology firm who stepped up to help."
Courtney Miles and her troop have already invited seven different troops from across the country. Troops from Washington, New York, California and Colorado were all invited. Each troop has already responded and plans on taking part in this eventful girl game night.
"Our troop responded immediately", said Katie Sanders, a troop leader for the Washington Girl Scout troop. "We think it'd be a great way to build a friendship with these girls. We are already planning on having regular Skype calls with the girls in the future."
