Staten Island used Toyota Prius remains strong
Used Prius tests nearly the same even after 200,000 miles
(prHWY.com) April 18, 2011 - New Jersery, NJ -- One concern when buying an automobile is how it will hold up through the long run. Driving a hybrid puts a unique twist on this concern and drivers have to think about whether or not the battery will need to be replaced at some point. At Toyota, the used cars NJ drivers would have this concern about are the Prius hybrids. Consumer Reports recently set out to find how the Staten Island used Toyota Prius holds up as compared to a new model. Their results were very reassuring to us at Hudson Toyota because the two models tested nearly identically!

For the test, Consumer Reports looked at a Prius that was tested as new in 2001 as well as a used Prius with 207,000 miles on it. The latter was still driven by the original driver, had been maintained reasonably well, had been driven normally, and still had its original battery pack.
With the same series of performance and fuel economy tests being administered, the results remained very close! Overall fuel economy on the new model was 40.6, while the model with 207,000 miles was just 40.4 miles per gallon. Acceleration from 0 to 60 was 12.7 seconds in 2001 and just 13.1 seconds after 207,000 miles. As for the battery, surveys showed that it rarely needs to be replaced! If it does happen to need be replaced, salvage yards usually offer them for just around $500.

When it comes to choosing reliable used cars, NJ drivers can't go wrong with a Prius as it proves itself even at more than 200,000 miles! If you're interested in the Staten Island used Toyota Prius, stop in and see us at Hudson Toyota!
