Wheeling Toyota Prius availability safe for now
Following the tsunami that ravaged Japan on March 11, Toyota continues to communicate its standing to employees and customers worldwide
(prHWY.com) April 18, 2011 - Northbrook, IL -- Natural disasters leave a number of uncertainties in their wake, and for Toyota, one of these is production and inventory longevity. As of March 16, the automaker reported that Japanese battery production remained strong as only one of three hybrid battery plants was damaged in the earthquake.
At that time, Toyota had chosen to continue its March 14 vehicle-production halt at all plants in Japan until March 22. Production of replacement parts for vehicles already on the market went underway March 17 and production of parts for overseas production continued on March 21.
Most Chicago used Toyota customers will not be affected by the consequences of the earthquake or tsunami. North American operations are running normally, with inventory as the only major concern in dealing with Japanese plants. Toyota reports "adequate levels of supply" as 12 of its models are now produced on secure North American soil.
While most parts for Toyota vehicles built in North America are also manufactured in North America, the Prius model is produced solely in Japan. However, Wheeling Toyota Prius shoppers have no need for worry: Prius inventory levels remain high in U.S. dealerships, including Northbrook Toyota.
Toyota responded to the natural disaster with an emergency task force on March 13 that assessed the situation on a continual basis. Immediate reports indicate that no injuries occurred at Toyota plants or offices in Japan. Employees at plants where production was stopped were evacuated for safety.
Along with the support of Wheeling Toyota Prius drivers and Chicago used Toyota personnel and customers, Toyota continues to provide monetary and emotional support to Japanese employees and residents who were affected by the earthquake and tsunami. On March 16, U.S. Toyota Affiliates reported that they would match personal donations to the American Red Cross. Toyota Motor Corporation has also donated 300 million yen (roughly $3.75 million) to relief efforts in Japan. Toyota will also continue its constant evaluation of the situation of production and employee safety in Japan.
