Leigh Sprague Announces New Memberships (ACLU & NPR)
Leigh Sprague announces his new memberships with National Public Radio and the American Civil Liberties Union.
(prHWY.com) December 7, 2012 - Fort Atkinson, WI -- Leigh Sprague is pleased to announce his new membership with two organizations: National Public Radio and the American Civil Liberties Union. Leigh Sprague, an international finance lawyer and consultant became a member of both organizations (separately) in 2012 in order to show his support for the causes that are important to him.
"I've been a longtime listener of National Public Radio," says Leigh Sprague. "I figured it was time I start showing them my support and am pleased to demonstrate that publicly. You hear all of those fundraising drives and compelling calls-to-action almost every day. One day, I guess I just figured that it was time I start supporting them. Sure, they may have some public funding, but they really need the support of regular, hardworking people like myself, too."
Leigh Sprague is a "sustaining member" of National Public Radio, which means that he is automatically re-enrolled unless he otherwise cancels. The "sustaining member" design saves National Public Radio and its affiliates on fundraising costs and other expenses that detract from actual programming and reporting.
In addition to joining NPR this year, Leigh Sprague has become a member of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). "The ACLU has always been important to be," says Leigh Sprague. "I initially got involved with the ACLU as a college student at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. However when I went to law school at Columbia, that's when civil liberties became even more important and real to me."
It was also during this time that Leigh Sprague was a Junior Fellow with the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace in Washington, D.C. and Moscow. "I feel like that Junior Fellowship also inspired me - it planted the seed," says Leigh Sprague. "That was one of the first times I thought, 'Hey, I really do believe in the ACLU. I should consider becoming a member.' But, of course, I was just a student at that time."
Leigh Sprague welcomes questions and comments about his new memberships with NPR and the ACLU. Also, he has been a member of Democrats Abroad since 2001.
