As many as 100 Chinese travel agents to be invited to visit Sri Lanka

As many as 100 travel agents from China are going to be invited to visit Sri Lanka this year itself! And this is largely due to the rapid growth of Chinese' outbound tourism market.

Petaling Jaya, Malaysia (prHWY.com) March 13, 2013 - As many as 100 travel agents from China are going to be invited to visit Sri Lanka this year itself! And this is largely due to the rapid growth of Chinese' outbound tourism market. A recent research report released by a Colombo based equity firm said, the 70 million plus Chinese outbound tourist market is an under-tapped opportunity for Sri Lanka. The report also mentioned that the tour packages offered by Sri Lankan tour operators are not as appealing for Chinese tourists as they are looking more into gambling and shopping opportunities.

However, in 2012, the Island received an astonishing 1 million tourists, the highest ever in its history. The famous explorer Marco Polo of the 12th century wrote that Sri Lanka is the finest island in the whole world and with its rich heritage sites; Sri Lankan government has plans in attracting 2.5 million tourists to the country by 2016 and to earn US$ 3 billion per annum by the same year.
